SCB junior doctors threaten cease-work over collegues’ arrest

Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: Protesting the arrest junior doctors of State-run Berhampur-based Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital, the junior doctors of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack on Monday threatened to resort to cease-work agitation fromTuesday if cases filed against them are not withdrawn.

The SCB Junior Doctors’ Association president demanded that the arrested junior doctors be released immediately and cases filed against them to be withdrawn. Last week, nine students of the MKCG were arrested on the charge of assaulting four persons, following which some junior doctors stayed away from work.

Of the nine students, three were junior doctors and others under-graduate students. They allegedly assaulted a photo-journalist, attendees’ of a patient and an auto-driver, in connection with poor treatment of a patient in the hospital in January last week. In protest against the arrest, some junior doctors have stayed away from duty, while MBBS students have boycotted their classes.

“We demand immediate release of all the arrested junior doctors and withdrawal of cases filed against them. We urge the administration to take step in this regard by today evening failing which we will resort to cease-work agitation from Tuesdaymorning,” said SCB Junior Doctors’ Association president.
