Rourkela, March 31: With road accidents on rise in this steel city, the local administration has ensured that the two wheeler would not get petrol unless they have helmets over their heads.
The petrol pump outlets also strictly follow the order “no helmet no petrol” here even as many of them irk the locals.
Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh had different opinion about ‘making aware then implement’. “Whether you are going to your office or to fill your bike, you are supposed to wear the helmet, it is the rule. And we are simply implementing that.”
Regarding the car drivers the SP said, “the driver and the rider have to wear the seat belt and this we are going to implement it very soon.”
Meanwhile, the administration is going to ensure that this decision is being adhered with all sincerity. “We are going to post young constables at all petrol stations for strict implementation of the decision. In addition the offenders will get a challan and will not get the petrol,” the SP informed.
Tuesday the Rourkela police had collected over Rs. 23,000 through challans and out of that Rs 17,000 were collected in petrol outlets.
