Baripada: August 28: POCSO Court in Mayurbhanj district awarded death sentence to a youth Jaminikant Mohanta, accused in 2018 Betanati minor girl rape and murder case.
Jaminikanta, resident of Garudabasa village under Betnoti (Betanati) police limits of Mayurbhanj district, was the accused of raping an 8-year-old tribal girl and brutally killing her on June 18, 2018.
The minor girl was learning to ride a bicycle when Jaminikanta took her to a nearby forest on the pretext of teaching her to ride cycle quickly. Further, he murdered her after rape. That was the day of Raja Festival and the villagers were celebrating the festival.
Some of the villagers had seen the accused taking the girl to the forest. Further, Villagers interrogated the accused and could know the whereabouts of the victim with the help of Police.
The police arrested Jaminikanta and forwarded him to the court.
