Bhubaneswar, Dec 14: Today the Odisha Assembly had to be adjournment because of the disturbances created over the detainment of farmers at various places in the state before the rally in state capital.
Riotous situation were seen in the House when Leader of Opposition, Narasingh Mishra raised the said matter soon as it assembled for the day. He wanted to discuss the issue but his demand was rejected by the deputy Speaker, Sanand Marandi, as a result to which Congress chief whip, Tara Prasad Bahinipati and the rest of the legislators stormed into the well and shouted slogans against the government. Thus, the deputy Speaker had to adjourn the house till 3 pm. Later the outraged Congress MLAs moved to the Raj Bhavan to put the issues of farmers in front of Odisha Governor SC Jamir. They demanded an immediate release of farmers from the police arrest. It’s stated that the Governor has assured them of an investigation.
Notably, today just before the beginning of the ‘mega farmers’ convention’ here, the cops have detained hundreds of members of the Navnirman Krushak Sanghathan at various places of the State. It’s alleged that the cops made an attempt to stop the rally and restricted the farmers from entering the state capital.
However, some of them managed to reach the rally venue. There was a clash between the cops and the farmers at the railway station at Cuttack after the armed men had detained the farmers forcefully, who were coming from Keonjahr area in Barbi-Puri express. The outraged members of the Sangathan conducted a rail-roko for quite some time at the Station. Farmers at the Bhubaneswar Railway station were also detained by the cops. the Dhenkanal police held up some members having on the farmers’ outfit at the local station there while around 20 at Raghunathpur station in Jagatsinghpur, 18 at Jajpur station have been restricted from moving.
The farmers’ organisation had called for a convention to discuss the demand for Price, Pension and prestige, which was long-standing demand of the outfit.
