New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: Lok Sabha lower house party leader Bhartruhari Mahatab informed the media that today the Odisha BJD will raise discussions on the GST Bill which is said to be the nation’s biggest tax reform which would be made officially valid by the Lok Sabha.
The ruling party has asked all its MPs to be present in the House during the discussion. Mahatab will raise state concerns on tax on inter-state movement of goods. The Rajya Sabha took a unanimous decision and passed the Bill that amends the constitution to enable the GST reform. The GST bill is likely to be also approved in the Lower House having a unanimous decision. It will replace a raft of different state and local taxes with a single unified value added tax system to turn the country into world’s biggest single market. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be speaking during the debate.
Notably, the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha in May 2015 and has been sent back to the lower house to validate the amendments cleared in the Rajya Sabha. It will then need the President’s assent and the approval of 15 states.
