Odisha former MLA cum freedom fighter no more

Balasore, Aug 23: Well-known freedom fighter and former MLA of Odisha, Bhograi Durga Shankar Das breathed his last at the district headquarters hospital yesterday. Several eminent persons visited the hospital to have a last glimpse of the departed leader.

Das was 97 when he departed. He had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the district headquarters hospital on August 11 for old-age problems. He breathed his last at 8 am.

Das was born in 1920. He quit college in 1942 to join the ‘Quit India’ movement.  He also represented the Bhograi constituency in the Odisha Assembly from 1957 to 1961 and was elected to the Assembly on a Congress ticket.
