Bhubaneswar: The Odisha University (Amendment) Act, 2024 has been implemented in Odisha. Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati has given his assent to the Odisha University (Amendment) Bill, 2024 passed in the Assembly, following which the Act will be implemented in the state on Saturday.
On April 2, the Odisha University (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Assembly after a full-night discussion in a historic move.
After the implementation of this Act on Saturday, Higher Education Minister Shri Suryavanshi Suraj has expressed his gratitude to Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati. He also expressed his opinion that the Odisha University (Amendment) Act, 2024 will be a landmark step towards the development of higher education in Odisha.
“To solve the various problems faced by the higher education sector in the state and to bring about a revolutionary change in the higher education sector and to strengthen the education system in the state, the Odisha University (Amendment) Bill-2024 was passed in the Assembly.
A new dawn has dawned in the higher education sector of Odisha. This Act will ensure the autonomy of the universities in the state and the process of faculty appointment will be simplified and expedited as per the needs of the university.
Along with this, the re-incorporation of the Senate in the university, government interference in the selection of faculty and vice-chancellors has been reduced. In order to increase the gross enrollment ratio in the state, the proposal to introduce distance education system in every university, the formation of a finance committee to strengthen the financial management of the university and the proposal to form a building and construction committee to strengthen the infrastructure, the establishment of world-class research and Higher Education Minister Shri Suryavanshi Suraj has said that besides promoting educational excellence, the Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act-2024 will also help in the growth of the knowledge-based economy.
