Bhubaneswar: August 14: Bhubaneswar & surrounding area has become a hub for dug peddlers.
On Friday, Police seized Brown Sugar, Opium, country made liquor after conducting raid at different places of the capital and nearby areas. Police arrested 18 persons in connection with the cases.
A team of special task force (STF) of Odisha police conducted a raid near Khordha bus stand and seized 1 kg 265 gram of brown sugar.
The STF arrested Aftab alias Md Saiyaz of Cuttack, Muna alias Sk Kamruddin of Bhadrak and Sourav Pattanaik of Khurda in connection with the case.
Sources said, Sk Kamruddin was bringing brown sugar from Jaleswar area and distributing it to the local sellers of Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khurda.
As estimated, the cost of seized brown sugar will be more than 1.25 Crore.
They have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the state police chief said.
In another case, Shaheed Nagar Police seized seized 260 grams of brown sugar, cash of 51 thousand rupees & two bikes from local sellers and arrested 4 persons connected with the case.
These drug peddlers are from Shantipalli Basti of Bhubaneswar. Police sources said, they all bring drugs from Jaleswar and sell it in Bhubaneswar and nearby areas. The cost of brown sugar will be around 26 lakhs of rupees.
NCB seized 20 Kg of opium in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Three accused have been arrested and a container truck has been seized from them. Sources said, they were transporting opium from Jharkhand to Uttar Pradesh via Odisha. All the arrested persons are from Uttar Pradesh.
A joint team of Nayapalli police and the State Excise Department personnel seized huge quantities of country-made liquor following raids at Saliasahi area.
Sources said, around 500 litres of country-made liquor and 6000 litres of raw material used for manufacturing of Handia were found during the raids.
Eight persons have been arrested in this connection, official sources said.
