Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: ‘Odisha government will set up ‘Odisha Help Desks’ in five states namely, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Delhi’, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said while addressing the two-day National Labour Conference which begins today at State Capital Bhubaneswar.
He further said, Odisha has been playing an important role in the development of the regulatory framework for the labour sector. The state government has formulated the action plan for elimination of child labour practice by converging the activities of 10 departments. Speaking on the issue, Chief Minister said, “The action plan focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, education and skill development of the rescued child labourers and prescribes stringent action against the employers’.
Attending the conference, Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya informed regarding the different initiatives taken by the Union Government for the labourers like, extending maternity holiday from 12 to 26 weeks and hike in the minimum daily wage of unskilled labourers working in agriculture sector from Rs 160 to 350 and others.
This two-day National Conference will discuss the issues of construction labourers, migrant and child labourers. Also, a regional conference would be held between the ministers and officials of five states like Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Andamans.
