Odisha’s Cuttack train collision incident to be investigated by Railway Safety Commissioner from Oct 3

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: Yesterday the East Coast Railway officials declared that the investigation into the tragic train accident that happened in Cuttack, would begin from Oct 3. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) would probe into the Cuttack train accident. Advertisements for recording of statements during the enquiry would be published in the media. On the first day, statements would be recorded in the pre-noon session in Cuttack. The next venue would be decided later. All this was informed by Jyoti Ranjan Mishra, the CPRO of ECoR. Sudarshan Nayak, Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle, Kolkata will be conducting a statutory inquiry for the same from 10 am on October 3 at the Officers Rest House, East Coast Railway, Cuttack near Cuttack Railway Station which will continue till 1.30 pm. Thereafter, the inquiry will start from 3.30 pm till completion at Meeting Hall, 3rd Floor, South Block, Rail Sadan, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, an ECoR release stated. Any member of public having knowledge relating to the accident and matter connected therewith and desiring to give evidence may do so at the above places on the date of inquiry. They may also write to Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle, New Koilaghat Building, 14 Strand Road (12th Floor), Kolkata-01, it added.

In the meantime, the ECoR announced compensation for the deceased and the injured passengers. Rs 50, 000 would be provided to the two deceased, Rs 25, 000 to critically injure and Rs 5000 to persons who sustained to minor injuries in the incident. Also, 19 injured persons have been discharged from the SCB Medical College and Hospital and 16 other critically injured including six women are still under treatment there. The hospital authorities handed over the bodies to the kin of the dead victims after post mortem.

Notably, a Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak passenger train collided with a stationery goods train at Cuttack in Odisha on Thursday evening claiming two lives and left over two dozen injured.
