Puri, May 18:A good news for all environmental lovers, thousands of Olive Ridley hatchlings are seen crawling their way to the sea beaches of Odisha. This rare sight of baby turtles are sighted in coastal areas here, the place which has turned to a mass nesting ground for Olive Ridley turtles. Over the years, breeding and nesting of the turtles have doubled in a year on Chandrabhaga, Astaranga and Devi beaches here. As per the information of the forest department, lots of Olive Ridley turtles have laid eggs at Puri beach this year. The number of eggs hatched is also a new record. 2000 nesting sites were found only on Devi beach and more than 1000 nesting sites have been sighted at other places here. Also, an artificial hatchery has been set up by the forest dept to produce turtles from 1.22 lakh eggs. Till date, 76,000 baby turtles have gone into the sea.
