Bolangir, Aug 1: At a cracker making factory at the Bhalera village in the Puintala Block of the Bolangir District today one woman named as Santoshini Naik (25) was killed and two other women workers were seriously injured.
All the victims were rushed to the Bolangir district headquarters hospital and later shifted to the Burla hospital as their condition depreciated. It’s said that the mishap occurred at the house inside the village at 11 am when the three victims were making crackers. The explosion occurred was of such high magnitude that even the walls and roof of the house were damaged and the major fire broke out inside the house premises. Immediately, the locals took action and rescued three women workers from the fire place sent them to the Bolangir hospital. The local fire brigade unit post some time arrived at the fire area and lessened the fire thus rescuing the couple, Gitanjali Das, and her husband Om Prakash Das who were also in a critical state. They are the owner of the cracker factory. The local police at a go took both of them, who were unable to hear, to the hospital for treatment. On detainment of the couple, the police arrested them and interrogated them for long hours.
Notably, the father of Om Prakash had a cracker factory on his farm and not in the village. It’s not out yet that how come the couple had got the license to open the factory inside the village. Finally, the SDPO informed the media that the factory was running illegally inside the village.
