Over 200 Maoist supporters surrender in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, April 5: In the continuing spate of surrenders in the district, about 200 Maoist supporters surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra on Monday.

According to police, all these members of the Left Wing Extremist militia group belong to four villages in Mathili police station.

It may be recalled here that, more than 100 Maoist sympathizers, including 71 Maoist supporters, had surrendered before the district police on March 31.

With this, nearly 2000 Maoist have surrendered before police in the district in the last one year of which nearly 1000 have surrendered in just the last two months.

“We will launch developmental schemes of the government for the welfare of the villagers. Besides, they will be provided with assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of Odisha Government,” Mahapatra had told reporters after the mass surrender.
