Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Yesterday, after the completion of the nomination filing process for the upcoming five-phased panchayat elections was completed, the ruling BJD and opposition BJP yesterday released its respective lists of star campaigners that included union ministers, film actors, singers, MPs and MLAs. Each political party has to submit this list to the State Election Commission before campaigning begins.
Among the BJP candidates, there are Union Ministers Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan while Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had his name on the top of the BJD’s list of star campaigners.
Yesterday, BJP leader and former deputy Speaker of Odisha Assembly, Ramachandra Panda joined BJD. Today Panda met the BJD supremo and Odisha CM at his residence where he announced his joining to the ruling party. BJD vice-president Surya Narayan Patra and Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi were present on the occasion.
Also, BJD has also listed a number of celebrities who will be campaigning for the election and will also be a part of the election rallies. The list contains names of 30 politicians and 10 celebrities including filmstars turned MP Siddhant Mohapatra, Anubhav Mohanty, Prashant Nanda, Akash Das Nayak and Munna Khan, popular Odia film actor Arindam Ray, veteran actor Mihir Das, Kuna Tripathy, Satwaki Mishra and singer Trupti Das. However the ruling party denied to include comedian Papu Pom Pom in the list as he is allegedly linked with several controversies.
Likewise, the BJP campaigning list contains names such as Bijay Mohapatra, MLA Dilip Ray, state party president Basant Panda, BJP legislature party leader K V Singh Deo and celebrities Pinki Pradhan and Sritam Das.
