Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: As per the recommendation of a medical team and on the direction of the district administration, the Parala Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati Dev had been shifted to Chennai for treatment at the Apollo Hospital.
However, the suspicions of locals that the Maharaja had been kept in house arrest without proper treatment for over two years by his manager Ananga Manjari Patra proved to be right as the manager’s two brothers, Sanjay Patra and Tulu Patra, who were accompanying the Maharaja to Chennai for his treatment, fled with Rs 4 lakh and Maharaja’s old prescriptions from the Chennai Airport on Tuesday.
The Sub-Collector said that the documents relating to the Gajapati’s health had been handed over to his daughter Kalyani who denied of having received them.
The locals under the banner of Gajapati Surakshaya Committee led by Parlakhemundi MLA K Surya Rao gathered at the Parala palace and demanded immediate arrest of the manager and her two brothers.
Successor of Gajapati dynasty, Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati is currently admitted at the Chennai-based Apollo hospital for treatment. An eight-member doctors’ team has been engaged for his treatment.
