Bhubaneswar, Apr 1: In connection to the minor girl’s gangrape in Patrapur of Ganjam, the accused has been arrested and the Odisha CM has ordered the Crime Branch to conduct serious investigation. After the Odisha Assembly witnessed repeated adjournment with opposition demanding Crime Branch probe into the incident, the Speaker directed the State government to furnish a reply on the matter. In the reply, Patnaik stated that the CB has been ordered to probe the incident and the main accused, Kamal Pradhan has been taken behind bars. Pradhan has been forwarded to court. But he refuted rape allegations brought against him by the victim saying that both of them were in love and got married recently in a temple.
The victim accompanied by her father and brother had filed a complaint at the PS ahead of the Ganjam SP stating that it was a part of post pole violence as the victim’s father was a supporter of a political party during panchayat elections at Patrapur block. Following her complaint, the SP ordered the SDPO to probe the matter. But on Thursday, the victim changed her statement. While stating in front of the magistrate she said that not 5 persons but 1 person abducted her and kept her at Ankuli village. In the following days, the accused married her and developed a physical relationship. Based on the victim’s statement the accused Kamal Pradhan was arrested and after conducting his medical examination he has been forwarded to the court. This was said by the Additional SP of Berhampur, Trinath Patel.
