Pintu Das, former Mayor and prime accused in the Pitabas Panda murder case, was transferred from Berhampur Circle Jail to Phulbani Jail on Friday, around 8:15 a.m. The transfer took place under tight security following concerns over his safety.
Security concerns and a court petition reportedly influenced the decision. Jail authorities confirmed the transfer was conducted smoothly with all necessary precautions in place. The measure aims to prevent further incidents within the facility and ensure the safety of the accused during the ongoing investigation.
It has been decided that an independent government lawyer will handle the prosecution in the Pitabas Panda murder case. The Berhampur Superintendent of Police has requested that the Director General of the CID-CB appoint two senior government lawyers from the Orissa High Court. The recommended senior advocates are Kalicharan Mishra and Abinash Padhi, who will oversee the case.
