Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: The Health Secretary Arti Ahuja requested the Home Secretary Asit Tripathy to provide round-the-clock security for doctors and staff at health centres across the State, through a letter issued on Friday.

Keeping in mind the increasing incidents of attacks on doctors at various hospitals, the Health Secretary in her letter stated that the district headquarters hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and all tertiary care institutions should get police outposts for tight security to the doctors and in the FIR, the provision of Medicare Act 10 of 2009 should be applied by the police.

This decision was taken as the doctors at the Puri District Headquarters hospital on Thursday had ceased work citing the failure of the district administration to provide security to them after relatives of a patient, who died at the hospital on Wednesday night, ransacked the hospital premises and attacked the doctors. Later, after an assurance by the Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi for 24X7 security to the doctors, the cease work stir by the doctors was called off.

Meanwhile, a medicine specialist doctor named Bharat Samal, was admitted to the ICU on Friday as he sustained critical injuries when the relative of a patient attacked him alleging medical negligence at Balasore district headquarters hospital.
