Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana has been extended till March 2022. Announcing this on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government is running the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to provide free ration to more than 80 crore people during the corona epidemic.

We are running Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to provide free food grains to more than 80 crore people of the country so that they do not face more problems, the Prime Minister said while addressing media persons before the start of the winter session. This scheme has now been extended till March 2022.

Earlier this year, the Center had approved the allocation of additional food grains to the beneficiaries of National Food Security Act (NFSA) under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (Phase IV) till November.

Under this scheme, the government will provide free ration of 5 kg of food grains per person per month to a maximum of 81.35 crore beneficiaries covered under NFSA (Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Families), which includes Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Amid rising concerns for the new corona variant Omicron, the prime minister urged people to be vigilant.

The PM said, ‘We have administered more than 100 crore doses of Covid vaccines during the challenging times of the pandemic. Now we are moving towards 150 crore doses. The news of the emergence of a new coronavirus variant makes us more alert. We all should be alert’.
