Bhubaneswar: May 6: While President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu was delivering the 12th convocation address at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University’s auditorium in Baripada, Odisha, the power went out for nine minutes from 11.56 a.m. to 12.05 p.m.
But, President, continued her speech using a dim light on the podium, despite the audience’s confusion while sitting in the pitch-black auditorium.
According to sources, the university’s power supply was intact, as the air conditioning and fans were operational. However, the lights abruptly went out during the President’s speech.
Prof. Santosh Tripathy, Vice Chancellor of MSCB University, apologised for the disruption during the convocation ceremony. The Vice-Chancellor later suspended an electrical staff of the institute and formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered a probe into the power failure during the President’s address.
