Protest against forest department’s negligence and elephant attack; locals blocked road in Athagarh in Cuttack district, Odisha


Athagarh, Jan 3: Protesting the frequent elephant attack at Brahmanabasta village and forest departments failure in this regard, villagers have staged a road blocked on the NH-55 at Kapursingh, following which, vehicular movement on the NH-55 have come to standstill on Tuesday. Hundreds of buses and trucks were seen stranded on the road.

This move has been initiated by the villagers when an elephant attacked a man named Prashant Khuntia on Monday night while he was returning home and in an another same incident, when a youth got critically injured on attack  by an elephant.  Both of them have been hospitalized in the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Later, alleging negligence on part of the forest department towards taking steps to avoid such attacks, the villagers gheraoed the forest department office, here.
