Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: On Sunday, after killing a guard, eight terrorists of banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) escaped from the Bhopal Central Jail following which red alert has been announced in two states- Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.

As per the information, in February 2016, four terrorists named Mehboob, Amzaad, Zakir and Mohammad had been arrested in Sedition case from Raurkela and were sent to jail. Along with them, a woman named Najma was also arrested. It may be noted that during a joint operation by Odisha Special Operation Group (SOG) and Telengana police, the four SIMI activists and Najma were arrested.

However after the incident, four officers and a jail superintendent had been suspended by the Madhya Pradesh Home Minister for their alleged complicity in this connection.

Notably, by slitting the throat of a jail security with the help of steel plate and glass, yesterday at around 2-3 am, the activists scaled out of the jail wall using bed sheets, informed Raman Singh, Bhopal DIG. Steps have been taken to catch hold of the escaped terrorists, he further said.
