According to Brahma Purana ,Sankha-Khsetra ,consists of Seven folds .
The first fold – Ratna Sinhasana where lord Jagannath ,Balavadra ,Suvadra and Sudarshana are present .
The second fold- In the six angles are four goddesses: Durga-VimaIa, Kamala-Laksmi, Uttara- Durga and Batamangala with Garuda on the south. Nilagiri Mountain on the north. In the outer eastern facing spaces Devi Saraswati, the Salmee-taru and the Golden Well. In the western ones are the sacred Kalpabata, the Rohini kunda and Uchchhishta Ganapati.
The third Fold- Consists with a sixteen-petal led lotus. On the petals are placed the eight Sivas and eight Saktis who guard the Ratna Sinhasana. 1- Agniswara- Indranidevi, 2-Khetrapaleswara- Swanabhairavi.3- Mukteswara- Citratali,4- Batamartandeya- Katyayani, 5-Gopeswara- Bhadrakali,6- Pataleswara- Bhuvarteswari,7- Vaikunntheswara- Jagyaneswari, 8-lsaneswara – Sitala.
The fourth Fold- It corresponds to the Nilagiri Mountain with its gateways and twenty two steps.
The fifth Fold-It is the shape of sixteen-petal led lotus.
This Circle comprises the Asta (eight ) Sambhus and Asta ( eight )Chandies who guard the outer perimeter of the hill. The Siva’s are Viiweswara, Markandeswara, Mahakaleswara, Karnameswara, Mukteswara, Ugreswara, Kapala-mocana and Agniswra, also the Chandies are Visweswari, the Saptamatruka, Dakhinakali, Charchika, Alameswari, Barahi, Banadurga and Baseli.
The sixth Fold- It contains Pancha Tirtha ( sacred bathing pools ) and four Ashram’s at Puri. The Panchatirtha consists of the Markandeya , the Rohini Kunda, the Indradyumna Pool , Swetaganga and Mahodadhi, while the four Ashram’s are Angira in the east, Bhrgu in the south, Pandu in the west and Markandeya in the north.
The seventh Fold- It is the shape of a conch-shell. On the top of the conch lord Lokanatha Temple, towards the south-east, the Vilwesara temple. The last three Sivas, together with Kapalamochana and Goddess Ardhasani, act as the day and night guardians. Nilakantha is the governor of the kshetra, Narasingha protects the places where the fire ceremony is performed. Surrounding the city is the sea below, and a branch of the Bhargavi River which forms the handle of the Sankha khetra.
