A senior lawyer and BJP worker from Brahmapur, Pitavas Panda, was shot dead by some miscreants just a short distance from his house last night. The murder took place in Brahmanagar under Baidyanathpur police station.
The incident revealed that at around 10 pm, two miscreants came on a bike and fired two rounds at him from close range. Pitavas collapsed on the spot in the gunfire. He was admitted to MKCG in a bloodied state, where the doctor declared him dead.
The Berhampur police are investigating the incident. So far, nothing is known about who shot him and why.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Strongly condemned the incident and directed the police administration to identify the criminals involved and ensure exemplary punishment. He further stated that Odisha is a peaceful state, and such heinous and barbaric incidents will not be tolerated under any circumstances, a CMO release said.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena & several BJP leaders rushed to the medical college and hospital expressed shock over the incident.
