Bhubaneswar: September 01: Chhattisgarh Government had to go for another setback as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) extended stay on construction work on the barrages on Mahanadi River till next hearing. NGT has asked to stop all construction works on Mahanadi River which have not been commissioned yet till next hearing which is scheduled to be held on October 25.
It is to be noted, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday had asked Chhattisgarh to withdraw the writ petition challenging an order of Kolkata bench of NGT to halt construction of 31 projects undertaken by the State on the Mahanadi River.This is a major setback for Chhattisgarh as it was arbitrarily going ahead with the construction of barrages despite repeated objections by Odisha.
