Bhubaneswar, Nov 23: Bhubaneswar’s emergence as a prominent technical education hub in the country has given a boost to its quest for being listed as a Smart City the race for which has been hotting up.
Odisha’s capital city has attracted attention for being an emerging technical education and healthcare hub and an IT investment region backed by the government’s progressive IT policy, said Bhabani Shankar Chaini, Nodal Officer for the Smart City Project.
At a programme in SOA University, which marked the launch of a Smart City Lab in the University, was part of an initiative by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to encourage students to join the Smart City campaign in the social media and strengthen the city’s bid for a place among the top finishers in the race.
Chaini urged the students to join the social media campaign and share their innovative ideas to make Bhubaneswar the most beautiful city to live in.
The Smart City tag would become the focus of global attention with top notch companies willing to make investment here, he told the students.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof (Dr) Amit Banerjee said that his institution had already taken several steps to compliment Bhubaneswar’s efforts to earn the Smart City status.
It had made paperless communication a must in all its campuses which had also been declared as tobacco-free zones, he said adding the campuses were provided with wi-fi as well.
“Street lights in the campuses are being powered by solar panels while the IMS and Sum Hospital, the medical college run under the University, followed a solid waste management protocol, Banerjee said.
