Special Drive Against Modified Bike Silencers

Bhubaneswar: Twin City Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Police Commissionerate launched a special drive against modified bike silencers on Tuesday and seized over 100 bikes across the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District.

Police reportedly launched the special drive in all the police station coming under the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District following the direction of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and supervision of YB Khurania and Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh and leadership of Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra.

During the special drive, cops reportedly took action against over 100 bikes under sections 52 and 182 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and seized them. Apart from removing the modified silencers from the bikes, police also imposed fine on the riders/bike owners.

As per the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, police can take action against bikes which produce noise level of above 80 decibels, said sources adding that the main objective of the special drive is to sensitize the bikers and keep the general public safe from noise pollutions.

The Commissionerate Police informed that it will intensify such driver in the coming days and also sought the help of the general public to inform it by dialing 112 if come across bikes that use modified silencers and cause noise pollutions. It assured to keep the identity of the informer secret.
