Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day is an international campaign that aims to create awareness on the injury, and its impact and a more inclusive and accessible community for everyone. This year the World Spinal Cord Injury Day on Monday, 5th September was launched across India. 5th Sept being Ganesh Chaturthi in most Indian cities, it is being celebrated from 4th to 9th of September in Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Patna whereas cities in UP have already celebrated the event.
Awareness was raised on what it means to have a spinal cord injury, and the people who have this injury are involved in all the aspects of life and are contributing to the community in so many different ways.
On 7th Sept, 2016 Swabhiman did the awareness programme with the tag line, “Walk for the Cause” with a gathering of around 100 people having spinal cord injuries and disabilities. children with such injuries and disabilities. The awareness was not only limited to persons with spinal cord injury or disabilities but also young minds of various colleges and universities who voluntarily participated in it. The volunteers from BJB Autonomous College, Biju Patnaik College of Social Work, U.N. Autonomous College, Odaspur, Institute of Media Studies, Ekamra and Ravenshaw joined in big number.
The Walk started from Lower PMG with slogans and standees making the public aware about spinal cord injury, the mass walked till master canteen square and there a candlelight vigil was done for the cause.
