Sambalpur, Sept 7: Sport complex near national highway 6 in Burla is going to be constructed soon. The Board of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) had already Approved Rs 25 crore for this project.

Facilities like swimming pool, athletic track, football and hockey field, office building and separate girl’s and boy’s hostel will be available at the complex.  Water sports facility will also be provided at the complex. The college of Physical Education at Kulundi, Sambalpur is likely to be shifted to the complex, sources said.

The foundation stone of the project work was laid on February 2, 2015. Layout preparation work has been handed over to the Industrial Infrastructural Development Corporation (IDCO).

Boundary construction work on the 27 acre land where the complex will be build up has been completed.

Notably, the initial idea to set up the sport complex at Takba in Maneswar was dropped by the district administration when the proposal of water sports came out and so the decision to set up the sports complex near the power channel in Burla area instead of Takba was taken.
