Medical college and hospital at Sundergarh shall function from next academic session 2022-23. Odisha Government is taking all possible steps to start it in time, State Health Minister Naba Das told the Odisha Assembly on Monday.
Das further added, ‘ The Medical College and Hospital, will be set up with the support of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and to start with, it will have 100 MBBS seats and hospital facility with 500 beds’.
Health Minister informed the House that, the State Government had signed a MoU with the NTPC in December, 2013 and also the State had provided 21 acres of land free of cost.
People from different sectors have been demanding the Centre to set up a second campus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in line with the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar at the newly constructed medical college.
Accordingly, Odisha Government also urged before the Union Health Ministry to give its approval for a second AIIMS campus in the upcoming medical college.
Union health ministry’s team have already done the field verification in the month of April for the proposed medical college. They raised the requirement of 200 acres of land to set up the AIIMS.
But, State Government is taking steps to start the Medical College & Hospital from 2022-23. State Health Department has already notified the creation of as many as 271 teaching, non-teaching and various administrative posts for the Medical College and Hospital in Sundergarh.
