November 18:

Supreme Court on Param Bir Singh’s whereabouts

The Supreme Court refused protection from arrest to former Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh.  The Court asked former Mumbai Police Commissioner to disclose his whereabouts.

“Where is Mr Parambir Singh?” the Court asked.

Mr. Singh has been facing extortion cases based on a complaint filed by a real estate developer and hotelier. Singh is facing an extortion case in Thane also.

A bench headed by Justice S.K. Kaul told senior advocate Puneet Bali, representing Singh, “Where are you… within the country or outside. First, I want to know where are you.”

Justice Kaul hit out at Mr Singh’s lawyer when he argued that he can “get out of the hole” if he is “allowed to breathe”.

Justice Kaul said: “Only court orders in your favour, you will come…no protection and no hearing. First, answer where he is. Which part of the world or country?”

Supreme Court has scheduled the matter for further hearing on Monday and asked Singh’s counsel to disclose his current location.
