Taliban capture Kandhar, the trading hub of Afghanistan

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: August 13: Taliban captured Kandhahar on Friday. This is a major win for the Talibans. Earlier Herat & Ghazni came in control of militants & now Kandhar.

Afghanistan Government suffered a major blow as Militants capture Kandhar, which is the second largest city of Afghanistan.

Kandhar fell on Thursday night and its government officials and their entourage managed to flee to the airport to escape the city by air.

Kandahar is an important place of Afghanistan, because of its international airport as well as it is one of the country’s main trading hubs.

Kandahar is the Taliban’s birthplace and former stronghold, taking control of the city would be a significant prize for the militants.

So far, Talibans have taken 12 provincial capitals out of Afghanistan’s 34.

The Taliban now control most of northern Afghanistan and about a third of the country’s regional capitals.
