New Delhi, Dec 15: Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is working on a proposal to replace the “Motor Vehicles Act, 1988” with a new Act namely “The Road Transport and Safety Bill, 2015” which inter alia proposes to introduce electronic information system to identify repeat offenders.
In the proposed Bill, the National Authority shall develop and implement an electronic system for road crash and traffic offences to enable the collection of data related to road crashes and traffic offences.
It has also been proposed that the State Government shall ensure electronic monitoring and enforcement of road safety in any urban city within a State which has a population upto such limit as may be prescribed. The Bill is presently in consultation stage.
