New Delhi, Feb 8: Anti-terrorism strategy and employment generation will be key focus of discussions during two-day Governors’ conference beginning tomorrow to be presided by President Pranab Mukherjee and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Twenty-three Governors and two Lt Governors of states and Union territories will attend the conference.
The conference will deliberate on security–internal and external with special focus on terrorism and insurgency activities–and creating jobs for youths with special focus on skill development for school dropouts.
There will be discussion on implementation of flagship programmes of the government like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Housing for all by 2022 and smart cities, besides improving quality of higher education, it said.
The conference will discuss on ways to give impetus to Make in India programme and employability, and “Act East policy and development of North Eastern Region.”
This is the 47th conference of Governors to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan and the fourth conference to be presided by the President.
Vice President Hamid Ansari, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Niti Aayog’s Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, among other ministers and top government functionaries, will also participate in the conference.
