Bhubaneswar, Mar 29: The BMC has initiated a step towards prohibiting illegal collection of parking fees from non designated areas in turn putting a stop to the harassment of general public by the brokers. It has decided to install an all new system of Geo-tagging of parking lots in the capital city. All the detail information on number and name of parking areas under the jurisdiction of BMC, holding capacities of the lots and amount of parking fees designated for a particular vehicle will be uploaded online on BhubaneswarOne website.
All GIS information of auctioned parking lots have been uploaded on the website. If people want to take up parking facilities at other places they can tell on the site and the rates and further information will be uploaded on the website. The work is likely to finish before March 30. BMC Commissioner Krishan Kumar told media. Presently there are 76 legal parking lots here out of which 49 have been put on tender and parking fees is being collected from 27 areas. Urban town planner, Piyush Rout suggested that if the system gets attached to e-complaint system at all local PS then it could be more effective as police will be able to monitor the process easily.
On the other hand, a local stated that the website does not prove to be user-friendly. Also if an influential person can collect parking fees for a place he wishes for even though the place does not come under the designated parking areas.
