Berhampur, July 27: In the mahada (death rituals) of tribal people that was held in the village on Tuesday, the tribal people in Kandhamal district have decided to hold a protest meeting against the killing of five innocent tribal near Gumudumaha village on July 8. The protest meeting would be held at Baliguda, the block headquarters town in Kandhamal district, on August 1. Five people died in the firing while they were returning to their village from Baliguda in an autorickshaw. Seven people were injured in the incident.
The tribal people performed the sudhi-kriya and the dalits observed mass prayer as two of the deceased were dalits. Lambodar Kanhar, the general secretary of Kui Samja Samanyaya Samiti, a tribal outfit in the district, along with other several tribal people of nearby areas, attended the sudhi-kriya programme. On the occasion, a meeting was held to pay homage to the deceased.
