Bhubaneswar, May 2: From Monday, all mineral carrying trucks in Odisha have been installed with the Global Positioning System (GPS) so that tracking these mineral carrying trucks may bring about clarity and transparency in mining. No truck will be able to transport mineral without GPS. Steel & Mines Minister Prafulla Mallick informed this to media.

As of now, nearly 32,000 trucks transport minerals and of that, about 24,000 trucks have already been installed with the GPS tracking device and instructions have been given to install the GPS in the remaining 8,000 trucks. The Odisha Space Application Centre (ORSAC) will be providing technical help in tracking these trucks during the loading and unloading process.

The State government had finalized the proposition of installation of GPS device at the State Level Task Force meeting. As per official sources, continuous satellite surveillance of mining and transportation has already begun.
