Uliburu Mining scam: Prime culprit files a bail plea in SVC in Keonjhar

Keonjhar, Dec 6: After having spent more than three years in the jail, the main culprit in the famous Uliburu mining scam, Deepak Gupta today moved to the court here in anticipation of requesting bail.  

It’s stated that Deepak has filed his bail request application at the Special Vigilance court here. The accused in this Rs 1800 crore mining scam had been arrested on Sept 4, 2013. After the bail plea, the hearing has now been posted to Dec 12, 2016.

Notably, Deepak Gupta was operating an iron ore mine under B K Mohanty on getting a power of attorney. He had illegally mined around 45.22 lakh tons of iron ore and manganese beyond the lease area between 2003 and 2010 thus violating forest and mining laws. In May last year, the Enforcement Directorate had attached properties worth Rs 484 crore belonging to Gupta and his family members.
