Bhubaneswar: June 20: Monsoon is here; the muddy roads & traffic jams mark its arrival in the city, so get cozy with nature & enjoy the real beauty of rains & lush greenery!
Here, our readers would receive a tale on monsoon models across the state.
As the first drop of rain touches the earth, the sweet salty smell of the mud tickles your nose and you know that the monsoons are here. Meaning of monsoon are different to different people, from the sign of a good harvest, to cars getting a good splurge, evening tea and Bhaji’s near college corners and many more. Monsoon is also the time to set out and explore nature in all its glory. The lush green expanses, the dew drops settled on the leaves, the pitter patter along nature walls, with streams and rivers circumference filled, and overflow waterfalls, makes for wonderful views. The sign of a good monsoon is reflected in graceful water bodies as they come cascading down from great heights amidst serene landscapes.
After months of scorching heat, the monsoon officially starts this weekend in Odisha. This is the time when the city portrays its best picture- the time of rains. The one season that the Bhubaneswar waasi’s eagerly wait for are the monsoon which is beginning. Pay no heed to the traffic harassment, pits and drains, and Bhubaneswar is certainly a place worth being in during the monsoon. “Monsoon is the favorite season among all the others for me. The splash of water, the droplets on face, spreading your arms and welcoming the season is what I love about it. Getting wet in the rains gives a joy which can’t be expressed in words”, a pass out of Birla Global Institute, Deeptiprava Naik emotionally reported when asked about the soberness of monsoons.
Where else can you walk through excepting in the picturesque Ekamra Kanan in which water droplets appear to travel to and fro in the air? Each location has its own monsoon avatar. The rains can dismay a newcomer to the city. But if you are in the right place at the right time — well, you won’t want to be anywhere else.
“I am not a localite of this city but am here for two years and have seen lots of ups and downs in this place. Fortunately all this problems are washed away with the homecoming of rains. Although being a lover of rains at first it would become a problem for me to travel for office but things changed gradually. Now I am acquainted with the season and its mood and welcome the monsoon with an open smile”, said another person, Ayaan Sardar working in Reliance at Fortune Towers, Bhubaneswar.
The best first stop during the monsoon is Puri. It is at its best during the first monsoon high tide. The big waves come crashing against the concretes that protect the embankment, and fat drops of spray splash onlookers, and fly all the way across the road and onto hotels on the other side. Yes, there are police personnel posted all around to watch and make sure that you don’t go too close to the waves, but you can surely sneak forward for that one moment. Hundreds of others do the same. Couples in search of privacy often sit on the rocks here, facing the sea. Although people do sit here, it is much nicer, and much drier, to be inside an eatery and looking out through glass at the street and the sea as it makes the view worthwhile. “We often move to Puri to spend quality time with each other way from the hustle and bustle of the city. In monsoon our emotions get a high and we believe it’s the most romantic weather one can ever think off”, said the husband and wife, Gausul and Shabana Reza staying in Satyanagar, Bhubaneswar.
The Odisha monsoon is an experience, but monsoon weather is often unpredictable. What begins as a mild rain may suddenly turn into a heavy downpour. Then it is no longer safe to be near the Puri beach. The tide is strong enough to pull a person into the sea and away from the shore. During the worst weather, a hot, adrak waali chai and crunchy, salty, home-made bhajias complete the monsoon experience. They are best enjoyed in one’s own home.
