Angul: In a rather unusual event, an unidentified helicopter was found flying over the Satakosia gorge of the Mahanadi River in Angul district on Saturday. The area falls in the no fly zone in Satakosia.
Who was flying in the helicopter and what was the purpose behind flying in the ‘No fly zone’ is yet to be ascertained. The chopper was flying from the lower catchment area of the gorge towards Athamallik.
Some people suggested that the chopper was flying at a height of only 50 to 60 feet above the Satakosia gorge. It is a punishable offence to fly under 300 feet distance above the Satakosia gorge.
This is the breeding time of the Indian skimmer bird and the Ghadials and at this time. The presence of an unidentified helicopter has raised suspicion. This can be a potential threat for the birds as this area lies in the core zone of the gorge.
