Villagers take law in their hands, thrash the robbers; two succumb to critical injuries

Nayagarh, Jan 5: Yesterday, two bank robbers, while trying to escape upon looting a bank, died as locals here severely thrashed the two in Kasanda village in Ranpur block.

As per sources, three robbers looted Rs 3 lakh from the Canara Bank’s branch office located at Kasanda village but they failed to escape after being overpowered by the villagers. Immediately, the villagers started thrashing them mercilessly, following which, among the three robbers one died on the spot and two others sustained critical injuries. Later, on being informed, Ranpur police arrived at the spot and admitted the duo to the hospital where one more robber died. The remaining thief has been shifted to the Capital hospital, Bhubaneswar as his condition deteriorated.

Cash worth Rs 3lakh and one country bomb were seized by the police from their possession. Investigation has begun by the police by examining the CCTV footage installed in the bank and the three robbers are yet to be identified, informed Kanwar Vishal Singh, Nayagarh SP to newsmen.
