Khurda, Aug 27: A married woman named Niraja Nalini Mohanty had registered a case against her in-laws and her husband alleging that they had been torturing her for dowry and also blackmailing her through videos of her intimacy by placing a CCTV in her bedroom. Dr. Rebatikanta Das, his wife and their son Gaurav residing in Cuttack have been served with notices by the police based on the complaint filed by the assaulted lady.
It’s stated that the family were demanding a sum of Rs. 35 lakh as dowry. But, things became uncontrollable when the lady caught hold of the CCTV in her room. On enquiring about it, the woman was attacked and threatened for life by her in-laws. Succumbing to such brutal behavior, Nirja finally decided to leave her in-laws house just after 18 days of her marital life. She registered a case at the Khurda Police station on May 31. But was blackmailed by her in-laws that the video footage would be posted on social media if she happens to open her mouth in front of the police. Post such threats, Nirja lodged a fresh case yesterday at the Khurda Police station on the basis of which the notices were given.
Notably, Niraja had tied the knot with Gaurav on November 27, 2015. She is a resident of Haldiagarh in Khurda.
