Balasore, Sept 14: Today the remaining idols of Lord Ganesha were immersed amidst high security in a simple manner. The peace committee on Tuesday decided to conduct the immersion in a low key manner as the prohibitory order is in force.
The administration had relaxed the prohibitory orders between 8 am and 2 pm during which the immersion took place. Although there was a group clash in Soro for the past three to four days which had caused unrest in the district following which section 144 was imposed there, the Visarjan Ceremony took place peacefully today.
Notably, two communities went on to a scuffle during the immersion procession of Lord Ganesha on August 9. Around seven people were injured in the clash and thus some of the idols could not be immersed in such unrest circumstances. Thus to maintain law and order in the town, the district administration imposed section 144 under CrPC, which has been in force for last three days.
However, yesterday night, the administration declared curfew after some miscreants blazed some shops and fresh violence broke out.
