Deogarh: December 25:
The ‘Jilla Mahila Ekata Mancha’ (District Women’s Unity Forum) observed a bandh in Deogarh today, demanding 24-hour service at the old hospital. Members of the Deogarh Youth Unity Forum and the Women’s Unity Forum took to the streets in various parts of the city to show their support for the cause.
The protesters blocked the National Highway near Ambedkar Chowk on National Highway No. 49. Police arrived and removed them from the road.
The protesters attacked the Deputy Collector’s vehicle. As a result, tension persisted for some time. The police have taken the protesters into custody.
On the other hand, MLA Romanch Ranjan Biswal came and supported the protesters’ demands, and a protest was held at Ambedkar Square. However, traffic returned to normal.
Various organisations have voiced their support for the protest, rallying behind the Women’s Unity Forum. The forum had previously attempted to highlight these issues through petitions and earlier protests, but with no significant response from the authorities, they have now resorted to a continuous protest in front of the old hospital.
In its latest move, the forum has warned that it will expand the protest unless its demands are met, calling for a permanent solution to the region’s healthcare crisis.
