Yesterday night, a youth was allegedly slain and two others were severely injured as a result of rivalry over the illegal drug trade in Bhubaneswar’s Narayani slum of Unit-8 neighbourhood.
The person who died has been named P Subrat Rao, also known as Chandu. He was a drug addict who had just returned from a de-addiction after undergoing treatment for getting off drugs.
Sources said that the victim and two other people were being chased. Later, a woman, her husband, and three other people, who are thought to be drug dealers, brutally killed him.
The three people who are being charged with drug dealing were active in the slum. The two injured were rescued and rushed to Capital Hospital in Unit-6 for treatment.
Meanwhile, Chandu’s family alleged that he was killed as he opposed the illegal trade in the slum. Commissionerate Police have started investing in this connection.
