Acting on a tip-off regarding the infiltration of the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to Odisha without any valid document, a team of STF sleuths carried out a raid at the Bhubaneswar Railway Station platform on Saturday.

Following the raid, STF sleuths apprehended the Bangladeshi nationals by registering a case in this regard on Sunday.

The intruders have been residing at the Bhubaneswar Railway Station for last few days and the officials have seized seven mobile phones, Bangladeshi currencies and other items from their possession.

According to the STF officials, the intruders, during interrogation, revealed that they belong to Bangladesh and had crossed the border illegally through their agent near Dhubri border in Assam and came to Bhubaneswar to reside here.

The officials further added that a case under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946, has been registered against them. All the accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Notably, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had informed the state assembly in 2024 that as of 2021, a total of 3,740 Bangladeshi infiltrators were living in the state illegally.
