JPM Rotary Club of Cuttack Eye Hospital & Research Institute was established in January 1992. From a very modest beginning in 1992, this institution has grown by leaps and bounds to become a leading Eye Care Center in Eastern India. This institute is now equipped with State –of- art equipment to undertake hi-tech eye surgeries and other diagnostic tests required for eye care. We have a galaxy of highly trained and competent ophthalmologists to treat the patients, duly supported by trained and skilled team of paramedical staff.

This has enabled us to treat on an average 300 OPD patients a day and conduct about 10,000 operations a year. We conduct surgeries not only in our base hospital but also in outreach cataract surgery camps organized by us in Jharkhand and different far flung areas of our State. Our team has just come back from Sahebganj and Garhwa after conducting 1000 + Cataract Surgeries.

In active association and collaboration with Sightsavers, this year our major focus has been on Urban Eye Health Programme and to reach out to provide eye care to the people staying in urban slum areas. That is, we want to reach out to the people who can least afford eye treatment. In pursuance of this noble project we have established three Satellite Vision Centers in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Mulabasanta and we are planning to open a few more Vision Centers to bring more and more poor patients under the ambit of this project.

We are also organizing Cataract Screening camps in different districts of Odisha and we bring patients to our Hospital for surgery and then drop them back in their respective villages after conducting surgery. I would like to highlight the fact that nearly 70% of the operations that is being conducted by us is free and primarily the poor and needy benefit from these surgeries.

We have also a fully functional and well equipped Eye Bank and this enable to collect Corneas and transplant them on people who are Corneal Blind due to Injury, infection or birth defects. Many patients have regained their vision following transplant surgery that has been conducted by us in recent years.

For all the initiatives  taken by us to alleviate preventable blindness at nominal costs, we have been recognized as a Center of Excellence by Sightsavers and this hospital is one of the leading permanent projects of Rotary in R.I. Dist 3262.

In the field of academics, our Institute is first DNB accredited Institute in the State of Odisha and we have started a in course on DIPLOMA IN OPHTHALMIC TECHNIQUE this year. We are the only Institute in Odisha who have started this course. After completion of this training, the candidates can find easy employment in the many Eye Hospitals that have opened in our State.  Further our Doctors have been presenting research papers in every major seminars at National and State levels and their papers are being published in major Journals on Ophthalmology. Our Chief Medical Officer presented a paper in International Eye Congress, National University of Health, Singapore on November 2016 and we have just conducted a National level CME on 6th -7th of January 2017 in our Hospital with more than 100 participants.
