Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad, Chairman, Press Council of India (PCI), on his visit to attend an editors’ meet in the city on Sunday, while speaking to the media, suggested bringing social media under the purview of PCI.
He added, “It wont be appropriate to call social media a type of media, as it is more opinionated. There is only one problem with social media. Right of anyone to say anything about anybody. We are not trying to steal people’s freedom but there should be responsibility.”
Talking about the national media on local issues, he added, “its a sad situation to note if the national media doesn’t focus on farmers,or the workers’ problem in north east, but rather in Odisha they telecast a random altercation going on between a woman and her in-laws somewhere in Noida, which is actually unnecessary.
Though local news is well taken by the regional media, as they have a better reach, but rather the national media provide better information on the issue, added Prasad
