Earthquake of Magnitude 5.1 Shakes Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu

Bhubaneswar, August 24: A strong earthquake of magnitude 5.1 hits Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, 24 Aug 2021 at 12:35 pm. The effect of the quake, which had a dept of 10kms, was felt in most parts of Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu and mostly in Southeast of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The epicentre of the quake is said to be at 296 Kms South east of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Notably, earlier yesterday, Assam was hit by a 4 magnitude earthquake. As per the National Centre for Seismology, the quake was recorded at 1.13 p.m., having its epicentre at Kokrajhar in west Assam at a depth of 10 km.

The quake occurred at 90 km north of Tura in Meghalaya. People were seen running out of homes in west Assam & North West Bengal.
