Delhi: December 15:
Once again, the joint decision by Modi and Shah caused a stir in political circles. BJP leader Nitin Nabin was appointed as the party’s working president. His rise within the BJP has come as a major surprise.
On Sunday, the BJP parliamentary board named the 45-year-old Bihar minister as its working president. This move could make him the youngest person to lead the party, even though he already has experience as a five-term MLA.
Many see his appointment as a possible step toward becoming the party’s next national president after JP Nadda, once the election process begins. Supportive comments from party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have added to this speculation.
Nabin’s rise is linked to Narendra Modi, known for his unconventional governance and political style, and to Amit Shah, with whom Nabin has worked. Many see this as part of a generational shift in BJP leadership that started with Modi in 2013, Shah in 2014, and Nadda in 2020.
For months, speculation about the new president centred on experienced OBC leaders like Dharmendra Pradhan. Choosing Nabin, an upper-caste Kayastha who accounts for only 0.6% of Bihar’s population and is considered politically marginal, suggests Modi is willing to move beyond traditional strategies in his decisions.
Nitin Nabin, 45, has been appointed the BJP’s new working president, making history as the youngest to hold the position. With a robust political background and substantial governance experience, he is expected to lead the party through upcoming electoral challenges.
This appointment signifies a notable shift towards a younger leadership within the BJP, highlighting a strategic move to bring fresh perspectives and adapt to the changing political landscape. It reflects a broader generational change within the party’s organizational culture, embracing new ideas while building on established values.
If elevated to BJP President, Nabin will lead the party as it gears up for next year’s assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.
